New Project Begins: University of Washington Architecture Department, Seattle

For the past year, I have had the pleasure and honor of collaborating with visual artist Janet Echelman and engineer Sigrid Adriaenssens. This semester we are in residence in the Architecture Department of the University of Washington hosted by Tyler Sprague, supporting a course in tensile structure, design, and performance.

This week the process came to life with the addition of stunning performers Cori Kresge, Brian Lawson, Christopher Ralph, Rachael Lincoln, and an extraordinary composer Samantha Boshnack.  Collectively we explored the many tangents related to the concepts of perform/deform, making visible the invisible, rising tides, and so much more.  The design students created dynamic environments that challenge expectations.

Tuesday, we shared the process with the public, and next year we take further steps to uncover together what becomes possible across disciplines. Thank you to all who have come together to support and dream!  And kudos to Tonya Lockyer for knitting together the questions that will help us find the heart of the work, and coming on board as Consulting Producer. I couldn’t be more excited to continue this adventure!
